Availability model

Availability model

After four PPP highway projects, Germany opened up a second path for the privatisation of the expansion and operation of highways. The A9 availability model was the first project of its kind and became pioneering for all following availability models.

Via Gateway Thüringen is building, financing and operating the 46.5 km section of the A9 highway between the Lederhose junction and the Bavarian border for the federal government over a twenty-year contract period. For the first time, payment is based on results. The success of our work is measured by the availability of the highway section. The remuneration that the federal government pays to Via Gateway Thüringen is based on this. At the end of the 20-year project period, we hand the route back to the federal government in a contractually guaranteed condition.
